Step 1: Download WordPress

Step 2: Upload WordPress to your VPS

After downloading the new version of WordPress, you have to upload it to the VPS Hosting. For that, you will need a cPanel account. Therefore, a few FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Programs Cyberduck and FileZilla can be used, and also cPanel is the most appropriate means here. 

  • Now, log into the cPanel account, click on the cPanel File Manager and open it. After that, click on the public_html directory and open it.
  • Also, if you are using the File manager first time, then you need to create a folder for the website. If you already have a folder then skip this step. Now, click on the + Folder button at the top of the file manager.

  • After this, Reload your page. You will see the file you have recently uploaded. Choose it and click on the Extract option on the right-hand side in the top corner side.
  • Then, you have to need to finalize the location to extract the file. Also, make sure at the time of location confirmation that you have selected it correctly. After that, click on the Extract File button.

Step 3- Move the WordPress Files to the Root

Now, you have all the WordPress files. Next, you just have to transfer them to the right location. After that open the WordPress folder and choose the Select all option. 

Click on the Move button to transfer the selected files to the public_html directory. Therefore, once the location is finalized then click on the Move File. 

Step 4- Create a New Database

Nearby, we have completed the installation process of WordPress on VPS Hosting. But now, you have to make a new database. After that back to your cPanel. Now, click on the MySQL Database Wizard option in the Database section. 

The next thing is you need to add a name to the database. We will suggest you fill simple name so that you can remember it because you will require it in the next few steps. When you finished it then click on the Next Step. 

Now, create the username and password in the User Database. After completion, click on Create User. In the opened window, you have to select the All Privileges option and click on the Next Step button. Now, your database is created. 

Step 5- Edit wp-config-sample.php File

After creating the database successfully, you have to clear that WordPress will use it. Therefore, you need to require to edit the wp-config-sample.php file.

Now, go to the publi_html directory, find the wp-config-sample.php file, choose it and then click on the edit option. 

Also, in the sample file, you have to locate and replace 3 specific lines to ensure that the file can connect to the database which you created before. 

Firstly, locate:

Then, replace the database_name_here with the name of the database. 

Secondly, locate: 

[ht_message mstyle=”info” title=”” show_icon=”” id=”” class=”” style=”” ]define( ‘DB_USER’, ‘username_here’ );[/ht_message]

Replace username_here with the username you made earlier.

Thirdly, locate: 

[ht_message mstyle=”info” title=”” show_icon=”” id=”” class=”” style=”” ]define( ‘DB_USER’, ‘username_here’ );[/ht_message]

Now, replace the username_here with the username that you created before.

Lastly, Locate: 

[ht_message mstyle=”info” title=”” show_icon=”” id=”” class=”” style=”” ]define( ‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘password_here’ );[/ht_message]

Now, replace password_here with the password which you made before.

After all these, you have to copy and paste a new set of Salt keys from the WordPress API. Now, go to the Salt key generator and copy all the details there.

After this, replace the salt key line of the wp-config-sample.php file with the salt keys that you have recently copied. When you have finished this, now, click on Save changes which are at the top of the file. 

Now, the PHP file is no longer available. Therefore, close it and rename it to wp-config.php.

Step 6- Install the WordPress

After completion of all the above steps for installing the WordPress on the Virtual Private Server(VPS). Now, you need to visit your site and start the installation. For this, you can visit- yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/install.php.
